A Little Later Giveaway

James1:17 -
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

This was the verse of the day that I received in my email on the day I was working on this post.

Recently, I have been so blessed to win 3 giveaways, and the song "Give Thanks" has been on my mind. I posted it here, and it is beautiful.

I wanted to have a giveaway for my 100th post, but was not able to at the time. So after 135 posts, I want to have one. I don't have a camera, so I will have to refer you to Wal-Mart to see the giveaway. I haven't heard the music, but I feel sure it must be good. You can scroll down, see all the hymns listed on the 2 discs and perhaps listen to samples. Just leave a comment, and I will draw a name next Tuesday.

All-prayer

This is another wonderful devotional by Spurgeon.

Matthew 14:30
Beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

Sinking times are praying times with the Lord's servants. Peter neglected prayer at starting upon his venturous journey, but when he began to sink his danger made him a suppliant, and his cry though late was not too late. In our hours of bodily pain and mental anguish, we find ourselves as naturally driven to prayer as the wreck is driven upon the shore by the waves. The fox hies to its hole for protection; the bird flies to the wood for shelter; and even so the tried believer hastens to the mercy seat for safety. Heaven's great harbour of refuge is All-prayer; thousands of weather-beaten vessels have found a haven there, and the moment a storm comes on, it is wise for us to make for it with all sail. Short prayers are long enough. There were but three words in the petition which Peter gasped out, but they were sufficient for his purpose. Not length but strength is desirable. A sense of need is a mighty teacher of brevity. If our prayers had less of the tail feathers of pride and more wing they would be all the better. Verbiage is to devotion as chaff to the wheat. Precious things lie in small compass, and all that is real prayer in many a long address might have been uttered in a petition as short as that of Peter. Our extremities are the Lord's opportunities. Immediately a keen sense of danger forces an anxious cry from us the ear of Jesus hears, and with Him ear and heart go together, and the hand does not long linger. At the last moment we appeal to our Master, but His swift hand makes up for our delays by instant and effectual action. Are we nearly engulfed by the boisterous waters of affliction? Let us then lift up our souls unto our Saviour, and we may rest assured that He will not suffer us to perish. When we can do nothing Jesus can do all things; let us enlist His powerful aid upon our side, and all will be well.

It's Great to Be Me!

Mimi at Listen to Your Grammie tagged me with a meme.
You can read the explanation for the beginning of the meme originated by Jan at Bold and Free. Jan says that everytime she says "It's great to be me", it reminds her to count her blessings. So she started the meme.

Here is my list of why It's great to be me.

1. It's great to be me because I am a child of God, saved through faith in Jesus, who gave me the gift of eternal life.

2. It's great to be me because I am blessed to have a lovely, sweet and thoughtful daughter.

3. It's great to be me because I have a talented, hard working son-in-law.

4. It's great to be me because I have a smart, sweet and precious grandson who is still "my sweet angel" at 11 yrs. old.

5. It's great to be me because I have a nice, comfortable and peaceful home.

6. It's great to be me because I live in our wonderful country of freedom.

7. It's great to be me because I have God's Word to read, and I can stand on His promises, pray, and He answers me.

8. It's great to be me because I can listen to beautiful music.

9. It's great to be me because I can enjoy and grow lovely flowers.

10. It's great to be me because I can watch the birds and listen to their sweet songs.

11.It's great to be me because I have beloved family members and friends, who are blessings and Jesus who said "I have called you friends."

12. It's great to be me because God has given me the talent to write pretty music for His glory.

13. It's great to be me because I am blessed with the fruit of the Spirit ~ love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, and faith.

I am tagging my friend Barbara at Tidbits and Treasures, because she is a great writer and is so good at this. Also, I am tagging Maxine at Nanna's Reflections, who also loves to write, Beka at More Love To Thee, Deby at Apples of Gold, and Betty at Country Charm. All those mentioned are among my favorite blogs. Please feel free to join in if you would like to play along.

It really was a blessing to participate in this meme and to think of all these reasons why it is great to be me.

Psalm 139:14 -
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Jeremiah 29:11 -

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope

"Amazing Grace"

Amazing Grace by Lorraine Brewer
Amazing Grace

Acts 15:11 -
But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Romans 3:24 -
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Romans 6:14 -
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

2Corinthians 1:2 -
Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

2Corinthians 9:8 -
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

2Corinthians 12:9 -
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Ephesians 4:7 -
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

2Peter 1:2 -
Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

Revelation 22:21 -
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

There is a story about the author who wrote Amazing Grace here, and you can listen to the hymn.

"O God, Our Help in Ages Past"

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Ps.90:1

I am the Light by Danny Hahlbohm
I am the Light

O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!

Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure.

Valley - Israel, Hills of Galilee, Sea of Galilee
Valley - Israel, Hills of Galilee, Sea of Galilee

Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun.

Home at Last by Danny Hahlbohm
Home at Last

Time, like an ever rolling stream, Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream Dies at the op'ning day.

O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while life shall last, And our eternal home.

Text: Issac Watts; based on Psalm 90
Music: William Croft

Nearer to God

This is another wonderful devotional by Charles Spurgeon.

Isaiah 40:9
Get thee up into the high mountain.

Each believer should be thirsting for God, for the living God, and longing to climb the hill of the Lord, and see Him face to face. We ought not to rest content in the mists of the valley when the summit of Tabor awaits us. My soul thirsteth to drink deep of the cup which is reserved for those who reach the mountain's brow, and bathe their brows in heaven. How pure are the dews of the hills, how fresh is the mountain air, how rich the fare of the dwellers aloft, whose windows look into the New Jerusalem! Many saints are content to live like men in coal mines, who see not the sun; they eat dust like the serpent when they might taste the ambrosial meat of angels; they are content to wear the miner's garb when they might put on king's robes; tears mar their faces when they might anoint them with celestial oil. Satisfied I am that many a believer pines in a dungeon when he might walk on the palace roof, and view the goodly land and Lebanon. Rouse thee, O believer, from thy low condition! Cast away thy sloth, thy lethargy, thy coldness, or whatever interferes with thy chaste and pure love to Christ, thy soul's Husband. Make Him the source, the centre, and the circumference of all thy soul's range of delight. What enchants thee into such folly as to remain in a pit when thou mayst sit on a throne? Live not in the lowlands of bondage now that mountain liberty is conferred upon thee. Rest no longer satisfied with thy dwarfish attainments, but press forward to things more sublime and heavenly. Aspire to a higher, a nobler, a fuller life. Upward to heaven! Nearer to God!
"When wilt Thou come unto me, Lord?
Oh come, my Lord most dear!
Come near, come nearer, nearer still,
I'm blest when Thou art near."

Names of Jesus II

Names of Christ
Names of Christ

Isaiah 9:6 -
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Ro 14:11 -
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

This is my little song I sometimes like to sing:

At the mighty name of Jesus,
Every knee shall bow
And every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
He rules over all of heav'n and earth,
He is the great I am.
He is the Alpha and Omega,
He's the beginning and the end.

Then I sing:

Reflections on a New Year

Heavenly Angels
Heavenly Angels

I have received so many nice wishes for the New Year ~ for a blessed, healthy, prosperous, joy filled, Happy New Year. One friend said we can start the year with no mistakes, a clean slate and the gift of a new year. And I have seen this scripture verse about the year.

Psalm 65:11 -
Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; and thy paths drop fatness.

Here is a wonderful devotional by Charles Spurgeon about a new year.

Song of Solomon 1:4
We will be glad and rejoice in Thee.

We will be glad and rejoice in Thee. We will not open the gates of the year to the dolorous notes of the sackbut, but to the sweet strains of the harp of joy, and the high sounding cymbals of gladness. "O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise unto the rock of our salvation." We, the called and faithful and chosen, we will drive away our griefs, and set up our banners of confidence in the name of God. Let others lament over their troubles, we who have the sweetening tree to cast into Marah's bitter pool, with joy will magnify the Lord. Eternal Spirit, our effectual Comforter, we who are the temples in which Thou dwellest, will never cease from adoring and blessing the name of Jesus. We WILL, we are resolved about it, Jesus must have the crown of our heart's delight; we will not dishonour our Bridegroom by mourning in His presence. We are ordained to be the minstrels of the skies, let us rehearse our everlasting anthem before we sing it in the halls of the New Jerusalem. We will BE GLAD AND REJOICE: two words with one sense, double joy, blessedness upon blessedness. Need there be any limit to our rejoicing in the Lord even now? Do not men of grace find their Lord to be camphire and spikenard, calamus and cinnamon even now, and what better fragrance have they in heaven itself? We will be glad and rejoice IN THEE. That last word is the meat in the dish, the kernel of the nut, the soul of the text. What heavens are laid up in Jesus! What rivers of infinite bliss have their source, ay, and every drop of their fulness in Him! Since, O sweet Lord Jesus, Thou art the present portion of Thy people, favour us this year with such a sense of Thy preciousness, that from its first to its last day we may be glad and rejoice in Thee. Let January open with joy in the Lord, and December close with gladness in Jesus.
