"Like A Rose

This is a Christmas song I wrote some years ago.

Like A Rose

He was born long ago, in a manger low,
Holy child, Prince of Peace, Son of God.
Wise men bearing gifts, knelt and worshiped Him,
Offering gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Like a rose of Sharon my Jesus lives.
Ever pure, fair and lovely is He.
He's the True Living Word, the Son of God,
Full of grace, tender mercy and love.

Shepherds watching their flocks on a starry night,
Saw a glorious light fill the sky.
Then a Heavenly Host from on high appeared,
Saying "Fear not, I bring good news."
Like a rose of Sharon my Jesus lives.
Ever pure, fair and lovely is He.
He's the True Living Word, the Son of God,
Full of grace, tender mercy and love.

Unto you, now is born, in Bethlehem,
Jesus, Savior, Christ the Lord.
Then the shepherds followed the shining star,
To the place where the infant lay.
Like a rose of Sharon my Jesus lives.
Ever pure, fair and lovely is He.
He's the True Living Word, the Son of God,
Full of grace, tender mercy and love.

God so loved the world that He gave His son,
As a light in the darkness to shine.
For the gift of God is eternal life,
Through Jesus Christ His Son.
Like a rose of Sharon my Jesus lives.
Ever pure, fair and lovely is He.
He's the True Living Word, the Son of God,
Full of grace, tender mercy and love.

Cathy - I didn't know you wrote songs. This is beautiful - both words and music. Thank you so much for sharing.

Beverly and Mari, thank you. I call it my sort of Southern gospel type song. Yes, Mari, I have a music website too. I have another Christmas song, classical type, that I need to complete - "The Word Became Flesh."

What beautiful lyrics to honor our Lord. In thinking...I happen to be in line yesterday to buy a gift and had to suffer while waiting through some overhead store rap song with a secular christmas meaning. So clueless. Your words are a breath of fresh air in comparison.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!!

Cathy, what a beautiful piece! The melody is so gently, like a lullaby.

Thanks everybody ~
Jodi, thanks for saying that. I think in a songwriting contest, they wanted to know why I had such a long story, and I think they said it was too jumpy? They did like the chorus though.
