"School Days"

School days, school days;
good old golden rule days.
Readin' and 'ritin' and 'rithmetic;
taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick

The words were written by William D. Cobb, US Songwriter in 1907. This is a quotation from the chorus that was very popular. Music was written by Gus Edwards. I remember my mother singing it. Oh, my goodness, I just found the music for School Days here. He said to please not link to the files, so click on Midi Files under Standards in the right column.

I found the quotation at farese.com.

I remember this song as well!! Seems odd after all those years of home schooling that I don't have lesson plans to prepare and supplies to purchase at this time of year!! Thanks for stopping by my place last week and taking the time to leave a comment! Blessings, Diane

Saija, actually I changed it to a "quotation" from the chorus. It was the most well known part anyway.Glad you liked it. :o)

Thanks, Kelli, I wish I had the tune, but one that I heard was not the familiar tune that I know!

Boy does that song bring back memories !!
we sang that as we skipped (and I was one of those skippers = I think I skipped every where I went :-)

(considering the wonderfully posted drawing) Ah yes, back when morals and the Bible were still encompassed within school walls. Sadly, both are substituted for counterfeits.

Blessings to you!

Sparrow's Song, thanks. Yes, that is the problem in our schools today- no 10 Commandments or Bibles. When I worked in retail, I often thought, the kids never heard "Thou shalt not steal."

This picture reminds me a lot of my first school room. There were four grades in the room and our teacher was like a second mom to us! Thanks for stirring up the memories!
